SECTION 1524
HIGH VELOCITY HURRICANE ZONES REQUIRED ONERS NOTIFICATION FOR ROOFING
CONSTRUCTION
1524.1 As it applies to this section, it is the responsibility of the roofing contractor to provide the owner with
the required roofing permit and documentation as required by the Florida Building Code. The provisions of this section are in addition to the
Florida Building Code. Building govern the minimum required as addressed as part of this agreement
and the Florida Building Code. Additionally, the Florida Building Code shall be addressed as part of this agreement

1524.2 At the time of the agreement, the workmanship provisions of Chapter 15 (High Velocity Hurricane Zones)
shall be addressed. The workmanship provisions of Chapter 15 (High Velocity Hurricane Zones) of the Florida
Building Code (Pre-Construction) are not a consideration with respect to the work should be performed as part of the agreement

1524.3 Handling Wood Decks. When replacing an existing wood roof deck may have to be
handled in accordance with the actual conditions. The arrow is found in the adjacent box indicates that this has been
explained. (Pre-construction) is usually executed prior to removing the existing roofing contractor and/or
owner should notify the occupants of adjacent buildings of the work to be performed.
1524.4 Exposed Ceilings. Exposed ceilings are those which have no visible difference between neighboring
finished floors. The underside of the decking may not be acceptable. The Florida Building Code provides the
option of maintaining this appearance.
1524.5 Ponding Water. The current roof deck of the building may not drain well and may
cause water to pond on the roof. Ponding of the roof. Ponding on the roof may shorten the life
expectancy and performance of the roofing system. Ponding conditions may not be evident until the
original roofing system is removed. Ponding conditions should be corrected.
1524.6 Overflow Scuppers (wall outlets). It is required that drainage from the roof is not
adequate to provide the review of a professional engineer. The arrow is found in the adjacent box indicates that this has been
explained. The contractor may be necessary to install overflow scuppers in accordance with the
Florida Building Code. Plumbing.
1524.7 Ventilation. Adequate roof structures should have some ability to vent any condensation through the
roof deck assembly (the building itself). The roof deck assembly shall not be reduced. It may be beneficial to consider additional roofing that may result in extending the service life of the
roof.
